Teaching pre-schoolers to pick up after themselves and put things back where they got them is not easy. But, of course, there are always ways to encourage them to so. One of which is by structuring your home environment and by providing them simple and easy routines to follow. You can start the training with the closet. Here are some ideas.
1. Make the shelves, drawers, and hanging line accessible for them. If what you have in the room is simply tall, build a movable and stable staircase, which your tot can use to reach the top shelf effortlessly.
2. Add an extender rod. This is especially useful if you want to give your young ones more control when it comes to their choice of clothes. With a rod on hand, it would be easier for them to reach their chosen hanged clothes to wear for the day without bothering you for assistance.
3. Consider storage bins and baskets. These are great solution for keeping underwear and socks. With one, your children need not check drawers one by one to search for their undergarments. They simply have to pull out the basket and choose which piece to wear for the day.
4. Attached some hooks on the closet's door. These are great for hanging everything from jacket to robes. They help maximise space, too.
5. Paint the shelves in colour to indicate what items is stored to which. Doing so will make it easier for your preschoolers to determine where they should place their toys, shirts, jeans, shoes, and the like.
These are just some of the ideas you can incorporate in your children's closet. Whatever you decided to follow, keep in mind that the bottom line is to make it easier for your young ones to organise their own wardrobe.
